Tanning Care
Sunless tanning has come a long way from the days of orange. Spray tans can give you the natural glow you are looking for you; however, without the right preparation, your results may be an unwanted look. Following the suggestions for pre-tanning prep work and choosing a color that complements your natural skin tone will keep the unnatural looking tan at bay.
The entire process takes about 10-15 minutes, from start to finish.
The typical spray tan will last 7-10 days with proper care and upkeep. It’s important to follow the steps listed under Maintaining My Tan to get the best quality tan possible.
What do I need to do before my appointment?
- Moisturize twice daily with an approved cream-formula moisturizer.
- Exfoliate at least twice the week prior to your appointment. Use an exfoliator, not just a loofah!
- Schedule any waxing, manicures, or pedicures at least 48 hours prior to appointment.
- DO NOT exfoliate or shave the day of your tan!
- Shower at least 2 hours prior to your appointment with an approved body wash or just rinse with water.
- DO NOT apply products to your skin. No lotions, deodorants, or perfumes on your skin.
- DO NOT apply body oils, moisturizers, deodorants to your skin after your shower. This can create a barrier on your skin prior to tanning.
- Bring a large towel to place over your car seat to avoid staining.
- Your spray tan session will last 10-15 minutes.
- Women may go nude; disposable thongs and hair covers are available, or you can bring small black/dark underwear to be sprayed in.
- Men must wear underwear.
- Wear dark, loose-fitting clothing and flip-flops or open shoes until your first shower.
Jeans/leggings/tight yoga-style pants are not recommended as these may affect the outcome of your tan. - DO NOT apply any liquid make-up products to your skin (powder, lipstick, & mascara are fine).
- DO NOT exercise, swim, or use a hot tub.
Basically, avoid sweating before your first rinse. - You can rinse with warm water only - NO SOAP. Run your hands down your body until the water runs clear. Pat dry. No lotion or creams.
Time-frame will depend on which product you choose to be sprayed with. - If you choose to sleep in your spray tan so that it darkens overnight, please sleep in PJ pants and a tee top to avoid the transfer of any bronzer to your sheets and hands.
- Avoid vigorous scrubbing or rubbing when in the shower or when towel drying (just pat dry).
- Shower with a spray tan safe body wash.
- Moisturize twice daily with an approved cream-formula moisturizer.
- If swimming or using a jacuzzi/hot tub, apply a water-resistant sunscreen. Rinse with fresh water when done.
- If you must shave within the first 48 hours, use a brand-new razor and hair conditioner instead of shaving cream/gel.
- If you are getting a manicure or pedicure, only do a polish change, no exfoliation or heavy soaking!
- You will see some color wash away from your skin. This is completely normal. It is just the cosmetic bronzer.
The life of your spray tan depends on how you take care of your skin!
